The Genius of Ignorance

Jimi Hendrix was one of the greatest sloppy players ever. Value judgments about quality and craftsmanship are really more about the era in which a young musician, artist (or even scientist) grows up in.

Young artists always want to be pioneers of their own generation and do it their way. All 60s pop artists really thrived in one of the best times in music history, where traditional music education was still venerated. Not that it isn't now, it's not always necessary to make music as 'art'. Some of my favorite artists know nothing about theory and in fact avoid it. It's all about scene (scenius instead of genius).
