The Steisand Effect
Not as defined, but rather my own. It's counterintuitive but she was very top 40 in the 60s and 70s. Marvin Hamlisch's "The Way We Were" was number 1 for 3 weeks in 1974 and one would hear it in rotation frequently on AM radio.
When you look at what people actually "streamed" in 1974, you realize that The Way Music Was in reality, is not how it is fictionalized now. (The "Vinyl Effect"). Pop music is even more romantic (in an ironic sense) than it was in 1974, because so much of what was not there to begin with has been embellished.
The takeaway: The music you were immersed in as a young teen, will not be a part later in life, sometimes as early as 25.
