Sound/Geology Metaphors

I was at a lecture last Sunday on Great Lakes geology (of all things), and someone in the audience made the point that any sea level rise so far is the result of expansion in volume due to its warmer temperature, not so much melt water. This starts the feedback loop of more warmer melt water, adding more moisture to the atmosphere through evaporation.

The fellow giving the lecture was a musician and instrument-maker. So, geology and music really do have things in common: it's the idea of layers, in sound and in art, and in meaning.

If you want to know more about something, find a metaphor.
