Dangerous Metaphors (Continued)

We always wind up entangled in our metaphors.

One of the most dangerous metaphors in history could be "Industrial Age", as it it suggests that everything exists to support the Machine, but there are other ones on the horizon.

We are in the Information Age (perhaps the end of it), and we are entangled in Information. The next age may be the Intelligence Age and we will be slaves of AI, at least according to Elon Musk:

“In all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like yeah he’s sure he can control the demon. Didn’t work out.”

But the counter-argument is that going from age to age is not necessarily a one-way trip. Everyone knows the power of nostalgia. Capitalism is also very alive and well, as the main legacy of the Industrial Age. This makes perfect sense vis-a-vis the Singularity, where things are merged, not just replaced or superceded.
