Blurred Lines/Pono
Speaking of blurred lines, in order to fully appreciate the differences in audio between a compressed MP3 and The HD audio of Neil Young's Pono player, you'd have to have a continuous side-by-side comparison of every song to determine if there is any perceptible difference.
The more I listen to the Gaye/Thicke songs the more I hear the differences not the similarities. With continuous listening, things tend to drift towards the center: The lines between substantial similarites or substantial differences will tend to blur over time with low cognitive dissonance. This phenomenon is also one of the pitfalls for a composer or writer, when objectivity fades with too much repetition without fresh eyes and ears. High-resolution audio will tend to normalize towards the center and not sound better than anything (and sometimes sound worse). It will just taken for granted, which is what we have done with compressed sound for over a decade.
