Hoarding Fears and Future Regrets

Recently, I migrated a huge Evernote database that had almost 15,000 notes into Obsidian, taking weeks to complete. Ultimately, what I realized was that most of what I was keeping was functionally obsolete. I now only have 3-5 notes that I access daily, and seldom search for things. Much of hoarding is based on the idea that at some point we will need something and find it easily. It's a fear of future regret.

Yesterday I was thinking about all the things that I would like to follow (or should follow) in the news because everything seems to matter.  We want more than 3 things to follow. We want to see as much as possible because everything is important as a hedge against some future situation.

What matters is typically not clearly defined because needs are always changing. Following the events of the aftermath of the Venezuela earthquakes seems to matter because it matters to the people who live there, and might matter to us at some point, so we have to manage future regrets by hoarding possible fears beforehand.  Time is also woven in because we might fear that we have wasted it on insignificant things, including money spent over time.
