AI Soul

 

Recently, a Google engineer was claiming that one of the robots that he was working on had sentience but there was an article that came out as a rebuttal that was saying that artificial intelligence is essentially a tool used to make decisions. In the last paragraph, he said that ideas about robot sentience should be left to poets (and probably musicians) but even then, when musicians are using effects and tools it’s not about letting the system be the emotion. The emotion and the ideas come from humans and humans make various tools in order to transform raw ideas into products and other finished materials. But when you’re an engineer and you’re intimately involved every day working with robots and artificial intelligence, it will start to become real to you because you spend more time with it and it starts to become a relationship. I don’t think we should have relationships with our emotions, and then project them onto the works that we’re involved with. I think the ideas should remain at the organic level and then use artificial intelligence as a tool.

[7/2/2025: Now with AI in the fold, you have to think about the philosophical implications. My current bugaboo is how it makes the artist a ventriloquist, something they never had to consider.
