Cool Tools
Recently, a Google engineer was claiming that one of the robots that he was working on had sentience.
Another article rebutted it by saying that notions of robot sentience should be "left to poets". But poetry and music overlap in many ways. For me, poetry can be the engine for music, even if it winds up being an instrumental. AI can be "instrumental" in that process, but not its raison d'etre.
As I've always been saying, AI used in music is a tool or an effect or an idea generator. Like any tool, they facilitate the shaping of raw ideas into resolved products. To the extent that they produce happy accidents then that's a usable aspect in the flow of creativity. But it's too much of a stretch to actually give agency to AI as being a collaborator. Imagine you just experienced guitar feedback: if AI was in the loop you could say it was the AI that came up with the idea. It's an interesting idea to anthropomorphize AI, but it's more of a mascot than a collaborator.
