Slang is a 'date stamp' for language
There's a Wikipedia article started to log the slangs.
It's interesting that more slang words were generated in the 1980s, perhaps because GenX were teens by then and had absorbed more TV, or it could be the contributors to the page are younger. Every decade had just as much slang, but since it's all about date, younger generations get to catalog them. Perhaps the ability to archive them saves them in a way, rather than letting them fade away.
