Tagged Turrell

Recently Drake fucked with (appropriated) James Turrell.

I think this is perfectly natural. In fact both are celebrities. Perhaps the best artists of our time embrace low art, or at least realize that once the art is in the world it will be dumbed-down. Cloud Gate is "The Bean", and has become a selfie spot (and cloned in China). Crown Fountain is a kids water park in the summer.

In the case of Drake, he may need to read up on Turrell (and Robert Irwin). Turrell doesn't seem to need Drake as a contemporary. Pop art is not necessarily abstract or conceptual, and you can't expect it to be those things if you say you like it, and you can't make false associations. Nonetheless Turrell and his pristine works have been tagged. From now on, when one sees a Turrell they may think of Drake. One would hope the thoughts are mutual and enriching.

But if art were like books, one could cite artists and artist works in the "bibliography" as a way of being duly reverent.

Post-script:

Would the Visual Artists Rights Act apply?
