Lag of the Seasons
Climate change is a good metaphor for understanding change in general, especially in large systems. Climate of course is probably the largest, along with the global biota.
The lag of the seasons is the period between the longest or shortest day and the maximum heating or cooling on the planet.
There could be a natural lag of technological change, where it takes a long time for the systems to adapt both culturally and cognitively.
Climate change began around 1970 (or at least was being discussed), also at the same time of Alvin Toffler's Future Shock, which is still relevant in many ways in terms of adapting to change; i.e. it takes generations, not months.
