ET Art

The idea that primitive civilizations construct large monuments is evidenced by our own false projection of them on other planets, such as "the face" on Mars, and more recently, the "pyramid" on Ceres. Once a civilization is established it is assumed that it constructs megalithic monuments.

Going to Mars should not be a reason to regress to making megalithic sculpture. If anything, the technology in getting to Mars would have spun-off new methods for making art.

A better option than sculpting the landscape as abstract land art (such as Double Negative), is to create the hardware and software that generate the art automatically, either by intent or by accident, so that it inscribes the environment with territorial insignia as an overlay, much as what we do now with tagging, or what Michael Heizer did with a motorcycle, or what extraterrestrials have supposedly done through energy fields.

VR could bring together a local experience with a remote one, by allowing people on earth to "tag" art on the surface of other planets in a virtual sense. Our brains are easily tricked as we should well know!

If we need content for VR, virtual exploration/interaction on other planets and moons would be exciting.
