Dovetail
Here's a sequence that cycles around the circle of fourths, through third and first inversions. The Classical period was all about this kind of harmonic dovetailing, a metaphor from craft going back 4000 years, and here I'm using the Ouroboros metaphor as the cycle.
The dovetail is a structural element that is almost non-existent in modern art, but adds an element of strength through simple, clever methods.
Songwriters used dovetailing in the harmony as well, especially in modulation. This is my own, which doesn't a composition make. It's an "old-school" thing, but still wonderful.
