Composition Strategies: Durations
If you set the constraint: 'Duration: 3 Minutes or Less' and tell the artist that their song won't be played even if it's 3:01, invariably what you'll get are songs about 2:45. (This then gives rise to the possibility that an iconoclast will write a song 6 minutes long, and start a whole new genre. The moral: Sometimes taking a risk to break a rule can eventually pay off.)
