The art of photography is an exercise in hope

"The art of photography is an exercise in hope--hope that someone in the future will see it, and hope that there is a future at all. Record the present and perpetuate the idea of a future."

The act of recording the present is an archival process. It's the methodical collection of the past which informs the present. With the advent of digital photography in our recent history, this process becomes even more urgent, as the sheer volume of images makes storytelling in a historical sense a lot more work. In fact the making of digital still photography collections is more like capturing from thousands of frames in a video clip.
