Idea To Product
The essence of creativity might be a winnowing process from idea to product: determining when a product isn't needed, when prototypes don't need to be made, and so on. It is the primary essence of creativity to have the ideas be the product. Marcel Duchamp had it right back in the 1910s, whereby one can have the idea of making a readymade from an ordinary utilitarian object, or to bottle the air of Paris and call it Art. It is not the idea itself that is creative; it is how the public views it as being creative and novel—in his case it was the most eccentric idea that became the most creative. The public assists in helping the creative person make recognized work, and perhaps they become recognized in the process, which is a postmodern idea. DIY is both DIY for the artist and the viewer, not that of critics or experts to determine what is culturally relevant or has value on the secondary market.
AI is now a popular tool for art-making, but most artists are still doing it as they always have. It is essentially a manual process--even though we can think of software coding as a manual process involving the hands. Mental and cognitive processes are considered now to be as creative as working with traditional art materials.
