From Selfishness to Authenticity
Recently I had listened to Andrew Keen's interview with The Millennial Therapist, Sara Kuburic. Apparently, there is a meaning crisis among Millennials (Who knew?) Prior to that I had watched two artist interviews on the Louisiana Channel: Rachel Rossin, and Firelei Báez. Evidently there is no lack of meaning or rigor in their art practice; They're completely immersed in art-making--as a writer would be absorbed into writing a book. In fact, art (or music) is like writing a book. Many songwriters also dip their feet into prose, such as Pete Townshend. They're "deep" artists who find meaning in existential crises and express it in a more excursive fashion.
Self-actualization usually starts with what appears to be selfish things. Can you get absorbed into something for 5 solid hours without reaching for a phone?
