 Bur rather in praise of remembering:

"In the early 20th century, memorial day commemorations themselves largely serve as occasions for a generalized, watered-down patriotism from which the Civil War and the reasons it was fought are increasingly excluded, in favor of honoring the dead of all US wars, but also as the location for a three-day holiday weekend during which both the most important American automobile race, the Indianapolis 500, and an important golf championship, the memorial, are held."
