AI is the New "Rama"

In a diary entry in July 2004 I wrote, "Show on TV about vintage film museum in Evanston. Interesting: “Cinerama” (use of three projectors) started in the 1950s and caught on quickly and everything became a “rama” (phenomenarama). It was an attempt for a  “surround” visual (like surround sound). They had a film camera in the 1920s that cut a vinyl record while the tape rolled. (Interesting: the idea of being able to play the record by itself.)

Around 2000, everything was "green"-something. Many companies, whether it was a part of their product or service, was using "green" in their marketing campaigns. (Green-washing)

Now it's "AI"-something, whether it's truly AI or not. (AI-washing)

In the 1950s and 1960s it was space exploration and nuclear energy, and were popular themes at science fairs. They were the most popular visions for the future for young students.

To some degree, all the "washing" is legitimate but looks more like "Me Too"--at least at this juncture. Like the Cinerama record, there can be useful "spin-offs". AI will have spin-offs as well. It's in its talking-head phase.
