The Targeting Eye

Humans don't do horizontal or panoramic focus well at any level, but technology does. In film, wider aspect ratios made dialogue easier to capture without cutting. But there is always some limit to perception, and cameras and lenses have been our visual prosthesis. Even if we had chameleon vision, there is still the focal point--the "prey". In creative work we can operate off of Venn diagrams where partial "eclipses" happen, then pass. That's where the best focus is. It says "look here now".

Everything he is has been evolved to link the targeting eye to the striking talon.--J.A. Baker (From "The Peregrine")
