Semantical Double-Entendre

It's sometimes a very nice happy accident when a homonym and/or a neologism informs a pre-existing idea.

I had been thinking about the displaced temporality of recording music and the non-linear nature of film production. A book I was reading on an unrelated subject, was talking about temporal reordering as it relates to memory. I had to do a double-take: I read it initially as "temporal recording".

Multi-track recording, as well as film, are essentially non-linear phenomena that can take place over long periods and in many locations but is consumed in real-time and understood as having a linear narrative. It seems episodic, but is more semantic, and open to interpretation.

Perhaps all the things we record, even memories, are all semantic, and are an extension of what memories do, or what remembering is for. "Recordering" would be a good neologism.
