If you had to look up the word "vitiating", you might have been watching too much TV. It's not a "TV" word.

Umberto Eco probably understood TV enough to not have to watch it. Watch this clip of his huge personal library.

The interesting thing about the Internet is that people could now be doing more writing than reading, which could be generating more unread books, which Eco thought was more interesting. "Read books are far less valuable than unread ones."
