Paying Tribute

What people like in private and what they share publicly are frequently two different things: One can be listening to songs you liked in your youth, while liking/sharing something totally different. It's now very PC to like Leonard Cohen or Bob Dylan, a few years ago Lou Reed. Peter Gabriel did a tribute to Cohen that I thought wasn't either PC or that reverent. Perhaps the allure of Cohen and Dylan are the stripped-down qualities, that are somehow refreshingly diametric to pop productions.

When you get older you care less and less about what other people think. I still love some of the Carpenters songs--timeless regardless of their syrupy productions--that have the same depth as a Cohen song.

A metal or shoegaze version of "Superstar" would be so interesting, but not necessarily a tribute to it.
