The Screen as an Instrument
We're built for sound, and our brains automatically insert delays and echoes to synchronize perception. (Our brains have drop-frame built in!) This is why if a screen (or even written music) is in the chain of music performance, it is less efficient with more delays from mind to limb. When you're improvising, you've already played it in your brain before it hits your fingers. Some music could be more spontaneous, minimizing visual processing, but nothing is ever completely spontaneous using a screen as an instrument.
