Sour Grapes
Everyone seems to be retiring. After all what's left in music anyway?
When I broke my primary arm a few years ago and was in a cast for six weeks, I thought I'd miss playing music. But as it turns out I missed holding my camera. I've done music so long it can be merely internalized. It was ironic, and also revealing of true desires. Remove the ability to engage in quotidian activities and see what happens.
The recent conjecture that Paul Simon was "retiring", sounded like sour grapes to me. He couldn't possibly stay away from an instrument (even language) for long, and I don't believe he's into photography.
I always remember what David Hockney said: "You do it until you drop", whatever it is. The grapes are sweet, or will ripen.
