Life is a Dream
Needless to say this is a very old metaphor, and never a cliche. We are also the "architects of our lives", that is in fact a cliche, but we often treat it as if it wasn't.
Perhaps a more recent metaphorization of the Sisyphus myth is this documentary about the work of Andy Goldsworthy, who is literally living through this metaphor. Whatever one thinks of the "pretentiousness" of artists, they're right in there testing the metaphors.
Life is rather like design that art, where the former is about the trade-offs to make something work, in an equilibrium with all things possible.
