Eco Printing
I like the idea of books, music, paintings, etc. as being infinitely unfinished. Umberto Eco had asserted that he thought the book as a cultural object was as complete as it could be--you couldn't improve on it. I don't completely agree with this. I think cultural objects are like the natural world, always being reshaped and "remixed" over time. The fact that bits of text and links get thrown into flow of the Net, ensures that they remain fluidly dynamic. It is ironic that I actually prefer the better "UI" of a paper book, which might be (partially) what Eco was alluding to. Perhaps a more useful technology than a 3D printer in every home would be a book printer.
