The Score As Canvas
In the art world, you can have people build out your ideas. The equivalent in music is composing for an orchestra, where 50-100 artisans bring it to life. If a painting functioned like a score, the artist would have to preserve the sketch as a separate work, from which the painting could be recreated or reinterpreted. That's a crazy idea, but an interesting boundary where the canvas-score metaphor breaks down and can suggest interesting ways to generate work on that boundary condition.
