Who Would Do That??

When I was learning to play bass as a teenager, I played along with the radio and records. No one thought to use the recordings themselves as rudiments, although musique concrete and Dada cut-up had been around for a long time. To make music simply using the records would have been a strange idea to most people in the mid-70s.

Things will happen in the future that might seem strange now but not then. But then again Dada has always been strange. Perhaps the whole idea is to make the familiar strange, which can be a definition of art, at least post-Dada.
