The June 30 leap second piqued my interest in another way: how might cultural values be out-of-phase or in strange feedback loops going in different directions and canceling each other out? Now with gay marriage legal, America is finally catching up (positive feedback loop in-phase with modernity) simultaneous with other forces in their own reinforcing loops out-of-phase.
