Influence Licensing/Influence Rights
This is not a far-fetched idea: The proposition "If you want to claim an influence, I can sell you a license" may be a possibility in the future. As remote as it seems, it is not unconscionable as musicians get creative on alternative income streams.
Now that a musician's influences are readily available on the Internet, "innocent infringement" is more of a possibility. In the past, you'd have to buy the music or listen to it at a library. There was a concerted effort (and in retrospect a more rewarding one) to do the leg work.
Just a year ago I wrote about Hendrix published record collection, and how interesting it was to see his influences. Now theoretically the Hendrix Estate could be sued by all his Blues heroes. Dangerous memes.
