Changes of Heart

Recently I read an article that questioned whether Duchamp and Dada were over. One would think this is anathema in the art world, but what if it were true, at least for a few decades.

This relates to the phenomenon of sunk costs, or sunk beliefs or sunk loyalties. The bigger question is what of similar value replaces it, once it is expunged?

Loyalties to Hillary Clinton may be over, but maybe not. Sunk beliefs can go pretty deep, especially when beliefs are ammunition against opposing forces.

I sometimes wonder if Brian Eno and John Cage are over, but the question remains as to what fills that space that isn't just a redux, including painting landscapes or writing baroque music. As to Eno and Cage, the ideas are too embedded into art's operating system, as is Dada and its progeny.

It is essentially moot and we need to just get on with working or thinking and questioning and let sleeping dogs lie.
