It is interesting how easy it has become to explore musicians' record collections, either through YouTube or music streaming services. Convenience and accessibility has perhaps made it too easy to be influenced in any profound way. Pre-internet musicians primarily relied on radio, record stores and concerts for inspiration. Now it's hard to decide on a hero, or is being determined by algorithms or search terms.
Here is Jimi Hendrix's record collection, as auctioned in 1991, now owned by the Experience Music Project.
Not surprisingly, most of the artists on the list are blues or folk music, and a few classical albums (who didn't have some cut outs), as well as some "Sunshine Pop" like the Fifth Dimension.
