Karaoke Kamikasi

Interesting: In Karaoke bars in The Philippines, Sinatra's, 'My Way' is impelling people to commit murder: “I used to like ‘My Way,’ but after all the trouble, I stopped singing it,” he said. “You can get killed.”

Apparently people have strong opinions about how faithful a performance is. In many ways it may be difficult to tell whether something is being done as a joke or if it is just bad,and no one is getting the benefit of the doubt. It is ironic that Karaoke was created as a way to celebrate the amateur, but did anyone think it would be taken so seriously? Music SHOULD be taken seriously, but should we be afraid of what audiences might read into lyrics, sometimes 50 or hundreds of years later? (Always consider the effect the future will have on your work.)
