On Coldplay

I still think this band has possibilities, even though X&Y is a bit bland. “Clocks” is still one of my favorites. It’s in E flat Mixolydian…you don’t hear too many songs in this mode. As a songwriter, I like to hear stuff that stretches or invents like this. It also has a nice middle eight with a nice choice of modulation (G-flat Major). Sting liked the Dorian mode, and did some interesting things with its harmonic territory.

I want to hear a pop song that works in the Lydian or Locrian mode.
